Staff

Elaine Waterman

Elaine Waterman

Executive Director

Elaine Waterman brings over 11 years of arts education and programming experience to the Firehouse Art Center. She holds a degree in Fine Art and English Literature from the College of William and Mary, and a Masters Certificate in Art Administration from CU Boulder. With a Fashion Design and Illustration degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology, Elaine started her career in the arts as a Fashion Designer in NYC, working for Bloomingdales as well as Marvel Comics.

As a professional artist, Elaine has exhibited in galleries from New York to Los Angeles. Elaine comes to the Firehouse after serving as the Studio Project Coordinator at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art as well as the Education Program Coordinator at the Longmont Museum and Cultural Center. Her goal is to provide support and resources to local artists and increase awareness, funding and access to the arts for all. Elaine’s biggest passion is introducing students, young and old, to the artist within, and she believes that art can be a powerful agent of social change. Elaine is excited to spearhead the curation of the Firehouse's three gallery spaces and hopes to continue exhibiting art that dynamically engages viewers and encourages creative discourse.

Reed Spencer

Reed Spencer

Facilities Manager

Reed is a Maryland kid- having grown up in Bel Air until the age of 15 when he and his family moved to Longmont. He has been enjoying life here since then. He came upon the Firehouse Art Center and decided to join the family as a Facilities Manager in 2021. He enjoys being the supporting crew in the background and behind the scenes, and prides himself in, as he puts it, ‘helping out’. He is happy to help set up the tents, and then go around the event making sure everyone is good. He also art sits when the gallery needs an attendant and assists with all technical needs that arise through each event. Both Reed’s art and his passion lie in the tech world. He has an enthusiast level interest in computers and has been gaming since 2011. He plays some of everything but if he had to pick a few categories he would say military, strategy, open world, and simulation. He even built his own gaming PC. Reed is also a military history buff from WWII onward, loves Star Wars, Star Trek, the art of soldering, and has a passing interest in cars and understanding how to do medium level repairs/maintenance. He is an integral part of the Firehouse Art Center support and this organization is all the better for it.

Joanne Kirves

Joanne Kirves

Ceramics / Education Manager

Joanne has a B.F.A. in photography and a minor in ceramics from Ohio University. Initially, photography was her main medium, specializing in Polaroid Transfers. For several years she created and exhibited her art, taught photography, and volunteered for a small children’s gallery. After two decades of curating and promoting local artists, Joanne has returned to her art. Clay allows her to share her voice in a different medium. Her ceramic sculptures reflect her life’s journey. She is a member of the Firehouse Art Center and East Boulder County Artists, and she participates in the bi-annual Studio Tours and hosts art sales from her studio. She also served as the Board President of Longmont Creates, the non-profit arm of the Longmont Creative District until 2024.
